New Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community
My name is Eman Afshar, and I am running for Justice of the Peace. The legal process should be transparent and fair. It should be easily accessible to everyone – especially if they are there because they do not have the means to hire a lawyer. I’m running to remedy the process and ensure people are well informed of the process. Often Justice Courts are where people first experience the judicial system and the right to represent themselves. That is why I feel it is crucial that the presiding Justice not only have knowledge and experience of the laws, but also the ability to serve with compassion since many who arrive at the courthouse do so without an attorney and with very little knowledge of the process.
I received my Juris Doctor degree from South Texas College of Law Houston and later received my LLM (Master of Laws) degree from the University of Houston. My first encounter with Justice Courts was while I served as a mediator during my time at South Texas College of Law Houston. It was during that time I learned how crucial it is to have a knowledgeable Judge at the helm.
When I am not practicing law I often like to spend as much time as possible with my family. I have a very supportive family, so supportive in the fact that you are likely to meet my parents, my brother, or other members of my extended family if you attend one of the events I am at. In practice I have taken on personal injury cases, however, I like to focus on helping small businesses and entrepreneurs to succeed in business and have often helped them through the process of small claims court. I get that desire from growing up in a family that encouraged entrepreneurship and I received first-hand knowledge of the joys and sorrows that come with that task.
Although it is not required by law for a Justice of the Peace to have a law degree, it is my strong belief that we should have an experienced attorney willing to serve his constituents in that position. As a Justice of the Peace, I can promise to be progressive, fair, compassionate, and equal to all who come before the court. I would not be one to let my personal ideas or opinions take precedence over the laws of the State of Texas. My goal would be to transform this office into one that is more transparent and to make the process more accessible to all those who choose to be there.
I am running for Justice of the Peace Precinct 5 Place 1 and I would truly appreciate your vote.
